Obama’s got the blues

MAN OF MANY TALENTS: Barack Obama

OBAMA GAVE the world another glimpse of his smooth vocals last night at an event to celebrate Black History Month.

The US President succumb to the pressure of guests at the White House and belted out a few bars of Sweet Home Chicago with the legendary B.B. King.

Obama initially shook his head in refusal, but when his wife, Michelle, began cheering him on with the ensemble of musical stars, including Mick Jagger and Grammy-winner Keb Mo, clapping their approval, he was forced to accept the microphone offered by Jagger before he launched into song.

The intimate gig in the East Room was reminiscent of Obama’s impromptu performance of Al Green's Let's Stay Together at a recent rally, which received rapturous applause.

At Tuesdays star-studded event, Obama opened the celebration by telling the crowd there were 'downsides' to running the country, but that nights like this made 'things even out a little bit.'

The President continued: “This music speaks to something universal. No one goes through life without both joy and pain, triumph and sorrow. The blues gets all of that, sometimes with just one lyric or one note.”

The blues concert was part of the 'In Performance at the White House' series that airs on PBS. It begins on Monday in celebration of Black History Month.
