Octavia Spencer receives special honour from Harvard

CELEBRATED: Octavia Spencer

ACTRESS OCTAVIA Spencer has been awarded this year's Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year award.

The award has been handed out annually since 1951 by Harvard University to people who have made lasting and impressive contributions to the world of entertainment, and Kerry Washington received the award last year.

"The Pudding is proud to honour an actress whose depth of talent has captivated audiences with her comedic wit and her graceful portrayals of the underrepresented," the student group said in a statement.

The Hidden Figures actress is scheduled to be honoured with a parade through the streets of Cambridge on January 26, followed by a roast and the presentation of her pudding pot.

"We are humbled by her talent and are so honoured that our little pudding pot will be sitting alongside Ms. Spencer's Oscar and Golden Globe on her mantle," Hasty Pudding co-producer Adam Chiavacci said

Spencer is known for her roles in movies like Hidden Figures, Fruitvale Station and The Help, which shines a light on the issues faced by the black community throughout history.
