Older Klitschko baits Haye with wait

WAITING GAME: Vitali Klitschko, left, is in no rush to box against David Haye

VITALI KLITSCHKO has told David Haye he must be patient if he wants to enter the boxing ring with him.

On Thursday Haye will declare who his first opponent will be since he last fought in July. Nonetheless, Klitschko, 41, claimed the London-born boxer turned down an opportunity to square up to him.

The WBC heavyweight champion told BBC Sport: “If David wants to fight, he has to wait because I have to defend my title against an official contender.

“After that maybe, if David Haye has high position on the world rankings, we can fight each other but it will not be soon. The fight against David Haye is not everything for me.

In February 2012, Haye got himself into a brawl with Derek Chisora during a post-match press conference following a fight in which Wladimir Klitschko beat Chisora. Both brawling British boxers had their boxing licenses stripped from them.

Concerning the offer to fight Haye, Vitali said he made himself available to fight him in Moscow last year.

“Last September I gave a proposal to David Haye to fight me in Moscow. David Haye had a contract and didn't want to do that and instead of fighting me he fought Chisora”, Klitschko added.

“How long [should] I have to wait for David Haye? I gave him a proposal and he didn't take it.”
