One of largest firearm seizures made in east London

SEIZURE: Images of the firearms taken by police

POLICE IN east London have seized “a huge arsenal of firearms” during a anti-gang violence operation.

Officers took in a haul of 30 guns, including pistols, assault rifles, machine guns and shotguns.

The Met said a large amount of ammunition was also seized by officers.

The force carried out the search of a property in Waltham Forest yesterday (Apr 16) in an intelligence-led operation when they came across the arsenal.

A 51-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been remanded in custody.

Over 320 firearms have been seized since April 2013, police said, while there has been a 40 per cent fall in shootings in the capital in the last two years.

Acting detective superintendent Gary Bruce said: “Seizing guns has helped us vastly reduce gun crime across the capital.

“The size of the seizure is exceptional and the danger of the these weapons in the wrong hands cannot be overestimated.”
