ON TRACK: Pistorius, back in 2012, has resumed training
PARALYMPIAN OSCAR Pistorius has begun training again, only weeks ahead of the trial in which he is charged for murdering his girlfriend.
Reeva Steenkamp was found fatally shot at the Pretoria home of the athlete in the early hours of February 14.
She was shot through a bathroom door by Pistorius, who denied he murdered her and insisted he thought an intruder had entered the property.
The footage of Pistorius, 26, back in training was released by the South African’s family.
A statement on his official website said the images of him back on the track signified a “low-key routine”.
Also, it was a way for him to “process his trauma” and did not signal “a formal return to athletics”.
Pistorius’ next official hearing in the murder trial is scheduled for August.
The website statement read: “Oscar is not contemplating a formal return to athletics and his training is not aimed at preparing for competition.
“His family, and those close to him, have encouraged him to spend a few hours a week on the track to assist him in finding the necessary mental and emotional equilibrium to process his trauma and prepare for the trial.”
Pistorius, a multiple gold-winning Paralympian, was freed on bail for 1 million rand (£74,000) in March.
He was given conditions which enabled him to compete in athletics events abroad.
