Pastor Dave Daniel is back with new music

KEEPING THE FAITH: Pastor Dave Daniel took a step back from the choir after its first album

PASTOR AND gospel singer Dave Daniel is on a spiritual high. The recent launch concert for Great Is The Lord, the latest album from the People’s Christian Fellowship (PCF) Choir – which he directs – was a total sell-out, and to boot, he sold hundreds of CDs.

Choir members are part of the PCF, a community church based in the heart of Tottenham, north London. Great Is the Lord is the choir's second album. It follows its debut album, Praise Comes First, released back in 2004.

He shared the reasons for the long break between albums. “We worked really hard those first couple of years after the album (Praise Comes First) was done. Then a lot of people started getting married and having families.

“That was a bit of a challenge, because when we wanted to go out on the road, there were pregnant mothers, or people had babies to look after.

“So we slowed down, pulled it back a little bit and I concentrated on my role at the church.” There’s no doubt that the PCF have come back with a bang. “The choir is very excited about the release of Great Is The Lord,” Pastor Dave explained.

“We believe that we've recorded an album which contains songs that will minister life, faith and inspiration to listeners, no matter what their level of faith is."

He added: “The songs on Great Is The Lord really focus on exalting and talking about the things He's done that are great. We hope that those who get a chance to hear it will feel the same way."

Stand out tracks for Pastor Dave include the title song, which affirms and declares the greatness of God, The Truth, written by Ruth Waldron, which explores faith and the challenges a believers goes through, and Promise, which looks at why people should hold on to God’s promises, despite life’s difficulties.

It’s apparent that although the PCF choir loves music, as a church family they are committed to serving their local community. Pastor Dave himself is a borough dean, police chaplain and chairs the police clergy group in the London borough of Haringey.

During the 2011 London riots, the church collected clothes and money to help people that were struggling. Church members have also served as youth mentors.

Pastor Dave added: “We partnered with groups in Haringey. Members of our church have partnered with an organisation called Hope in Tottenham, which mentors young people. People from our church signed up as mentors."

"It’s a really good organisation that helps young people get into work and education. We’ve also had some men in our church do a course on dealing with gangs.”

One thing that people cannot be in doubt of where Pastor Dave is concerned is that he is a UK gospel music stalwart. Born into a Christian family (his father is a pastor), Dave sung with gospel group Clarity and the London Community Gospel Choir before going solo.

He has sung with Al Green, Stevie Wonder and won a number of gospel music awards – including one from the BBC. Pastor Dave has been able to share his musical talents in Europe.

He received his first invitation in 1999 to visit Copenhagen, Denmark to lead a 750-voice mass choir, and has been going abroad ever since.

For the past 15 years, he has been influential in developing the gospel scene in Poland through singing in concerts, participating in missions and running workshops.

He has seen the standard of gospel rise in Poland over the years, and has paid homage to the scene there by featuring a song, sung in Polish on his album.

The next few months will be busy ones for Pastor Dave and the PCF Choir. The choir will be busy promoting their album, and he will combine pastoral work with music and everyone at PCF will just be working to not only show the world how great God is, but doing their best to build a stronger community.
