Pelé travels to Cannes to promote biopic film

WORLD FOOTBALL icon Pelé is in south France to create buzz for his eponymous movie which charts the Brazilian’s rise to global soccer stardom.

The former Brazil striker took to the Cannes film festival in order to generate awareness among the industry’s moneymen who could help finance the biopic.

Scheduled to shoot in August, Pelé is described by the star’s media company as telling “the inspirational story of Pelé’s rise to glory, from his impoverished youth in Brazil to a soccer prodigy who put the hopes and dreams of his country on his shoulders”.

While in the trendy resort, the former Santos player also met Cantonese Kung Fu master Jackie Chan, who was also there to promote his own new movie.

Pelé played a pivotal role in helping Brazil secure their first ever World Cup in 1958 in Sweden.

Alongside Diego Maradona, the 72-year-old Pelé is considered one of the best ever players to grace the beautiful game.

He scored 95 goals for Brazil in 110 appearances, and played in four World Cups, winning three of them with the Samba Boys.
