Photographer asks fans for £90k to fund Bob Marley photobook

Photographer Lindsay Oliver Donald

A JAMAICAN photographer is crowd-funding for £90,000 to help publish a photobook featuring never-seen-before photographers of the late Bob Marley.

Lindsay Oliver Donald is best known for his black and white portrait photographs of the late reggae musician.

His photobook, Portrait of a Legend and other Folks (POALAOF) is a 300-page coffee table black and white portfolio which covers over thirty years of Donald's work and features probably some of the last unpublished photographs of Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley, members of the Marley family and his band, The Wailers.

Also included in the book are images of iconic world figures that Donald has met and photographed during the course of his career. These have included Muhammad Ali, Michael Jackson, James Brown, George Bush Snr, Mike Tyson, Gladys Knight, Jesse Owens "and other folks".

POALAOF book has been self-published and was launched at the Jamaican High Commission in London two years ago.

If Donald reaches his target, the Kickstarter will enable the printing of 4,000 copies of Portrait of a Legend and other Folks.

Photographs from the book were prominently featured in RasTa: A Soul's Journey a 2011 Canadian television documentary which features Donisha Prendergast the granddaughter of Bob Marley and also in Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald's feature Marley, released in 2012.
