Police chief tells officers: ‘Target black men’

INVESTIGATION: Eddie Selby

A POLICE commander is facing the sack after allegedly instructing his officers to target young black men on their patrols.

Head of the New Orleans Police Department's Special Operations Division, Eddie Selby, has been reassigned from his unit after giving the "inappropriate instructions" to officers.

The police veteran, who has been in the force for 36 years, allegedly asked officers to look for young black males because they were more likely to be carrying guns and commit armed robbery.

Selby is believed to have made the remarks to more than 30 patrol officers and ranking supervisors at a roll call meeting.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas said: "We'll take action in these next few days because these are very serious issues.

"We cannot rush to judgment, but we cannot sit on our hands, either, and we have not sat on our hands,” he said.

He added: "We'll get to the bottom of this, and if it determines that the person needs to be removed, you can rest assured he will be removed. There is a lot of information that we don't know the answers to yet."

Let me pose the following question to you (with regards to profiling): If you had a group of children, half boys and half girls and a football was stolen from the sports hall, where would you start your investigation? (thereby probably saving you unnecessary work). I would immediately focus on all the boys. YES, it may have been a girl, but that is a rank outsider. This is called profiling, not racism. If young black men have a higher propensity to be around guns, then they are your target group. There is absolutely no point in wasting tax payers money by going and intervewing all the people in the old folks home. The more important question here is: Why is this guy forced to even go down that route? Why is no one in the black community asking that question???

I hope those of you who live in London that are venting your anger at at a police officer who lives in the USA are all also venting you anger at young black men who are targeting other black men in Brixton, Peckham, Clapham, Greenwich ( the places where young black people have been murdering young other black people) .

I always note with "interest" that when The Voice features a story about yet another black person living in the UK for eg (Genson Courtney , Yemurai Kanyangarara) who were killed by other back people TWO people at most will write a comment and voice their disgust at the "ethnic cleansing" that's going on under our noses here in the UK....and one of those comments will ALWAYS be mine.
However, a a white person who lives in the USA says something and WOAH..... lots of black people in the UK have something to say.
As @ Thu, 2011-07-07 02:08 says "I am however interested as to why this is deemed Internationally newsworthy enough to be in The Voice though."............. EXACTLY!

WORRY ABOUT THE "KILLINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING ON YOUR OWN DOORSEPS IN LONDON. THE DOORSTEPS OF Brixton, Peckham, Clapham, Greenwich

Black criminals in gangs are

Black criminals in gangs are a tiny minority of black British people. Also of note, many of the gang members are NOT born in Britain to black parents, but are gang members born overseas, who were incidently in gangs when they arrived. There are also Eastern European gangs, and gang violence related to them, but you wont go onto newspapers like The Sun, and find readers chastising each other over it, and blaming "the black race."
Its rediculous to hold the marority of hard working law abiding black British people to account for the actions of a few delinquents.

Its also extremely RACIST to suggest black people should only comment on stories about death of black teens, and ignore everything else. Many times you cannot even comment as the case is still in Court, and newspapers online cannot accept comments on certain legal matters. Its also in bad taste to leave loads of rebuking comments on an article about the death of someone who is not a friend of yours, or family. Its called respecting the deceased.

The way to determine this would be to look at the crime statistics in America. Do young black men actually commit more crimes? If this isnt the case then he should be removed. If it is true then he is correct and just stating a fact.

Er......

Er....not exactly!

Given the evidence which shows that in the USA black men are more likely to be given longer sentences for the same crime as white men there's clearly they're not dealing from an equal deck to start with.

Plus New Orleans has a very large black population - which means its a nonsense to tell officers to target 'black men' given that theyre (as I understand it) already the largest single section of New Orleans society anyway.

Wikipedia Says: "According to the 2010 Census, 343,829 people and 189,896 households were in New Orleans. The racial and ethnic makeup of the city was 60.2% African American, 33.0% White, 2.9% Asian, 0.0% Pacific Islander, and 1.7% were people of two or more races. People of Hispanic or Latino origin made up 5.3% of the population."

I am however interested as to why this is deemed Internationally newsworthy enough to be in The Voice though.

Shocking though it is - its certainly not surprising that this level of systemic racism is alive and kicking in the Police Force of the good ole US of A!

The shocking statistic I have heard is that in the USA black people make up 10 percent of the population and are responsible for 50 percent of the crime. Look at the numbers in prison. This cannot just be down to racism can it.
The reality of it is that we are living in a white mans society, wearing white mans style clothes and most of us black people have white mans names too and have taken the missionary religion. This is the irony of crying racism my friend. You cannot continue to blame racism and white people for all problems. It takes responsibility out of our hands and also creates a prevalent victim mentality.

I really don't think that

Anonymous's picture

I really don't think that clothes have anything to do with it. Nor do I think this is down to which religion people have 'taken': I'm sure you will find a proportionate amount of non-christians among the black population of US prisons too.)

And actually yes, you can say that racism is at the root of the black prison population - in that you can say that almost all prison inmates (regardless of their ethnicity) have experienced one form of oppression or another in their lives.

Oppression screws people up - and the more layers of oppression a person has experience/endured, the more multiply screwed up they are likely to be.

no crime is at the bottom of those caged men. They commit crime an they are locked up. Everybody is oppressed - its the way the individual reacts to it thats important. You dont consider free will and are typically shallow in your deterministic thought.

That's some bu****it!!! "If" he is wrong, you'll remove him. Let's put a Black Face on the Commander in question, and he tells his officers to target white young men. He would be taken off his post immediately. White Supremest System is wicked to the core.
