Q in the Community showcases the best of Barbados in London

A TASTE OF BARBADOS: Island-inspired sweet and savoury treats were available for purchase

THE VERY best of Barbados was on show last weekend as hundreds descended on Oakington Manor in Wembley for the London edition of Q in the Community.

The event is one of the highlights of the Barbados social calendar and proved to be as popular in north London on Saturday September 29.

Broadcasting live to Barbados from 5.30pm to 10pm, there were two rooms for dancing and enjoying Bajan cuisine, which included chicken, pork, rice ‘n’ peas, pudding, fish fritters, pudding and souse and of course macaroni pie.

FOOTWORK: Attendees took part in line and ballroom dancing

As ever, karaoke, line and ballroom dancing took centre stage as did dominoes and the sale of products from Barbados such as rum cake, peppers and rum. Bajan apparel was also on sale in the shape of caps and towels.

Several generations of Bajans were in attendance and they were able to relax and network - all the things that make Q in the Community so special on the Caribbean isle.

Music was provided by Dj Bajan Touch, Lappy Dingback, Green Dragon, Cool Breeze and Terry Bee while King Scorpion performed live and direct from Barbados.

A happy attendee summed up the day when she said: “Q is a great event and showcase for Barbados.

“It gives you a chance to see people you haven't seen in a while.

“You can relax with all these wonderful people around you, have a drink and something to eat and enjoy the atmosphere.”
