MUSIC: Rihanna and ex boyfriend Chris Brown have released two songs together

RIHANNA HAS been branded 'dummy' for collaborating with ex boyfriend, Chris Brown, on her latest single.

The Rude Boy singer, who split with Brown after he assaulted her in 2009, released the controversial single, Birthday Cake, yesterday to coincide with her 24th birthday and opened herself up to a barrage of criticism.

"Young girls look up to people like you to guide them through circumstances too complex for them to tackle on their own, and by granting Chris Brown an iota of tolerance, you implicitly encourage others to consider doing the same," Jason Lipshutz, assistant editor of Billboard.com wrote in an open letter to the star.

He continued: "If you continue letting Chris Brown slither into your work or personal life, nothing tremendous will happen- bloggers will blog and a backlash will form, but you'll no doubt continue ruling the Hot 100 and the world will keep spinning."

"WOOOW . . . RIHANNA RELEASED TWO NEW SONGS WITH CHRIS BROWN . . . WHAT A DUMMY!!!," wrote gossip site, MediaTakeOut.

The Bajan beauty took to her official Twitter page to hit back at the responses.

"Chiefin' while ppl spend hrs on letters... *kanye shrug* #phu--it [sic]," she wrote.

She added: "Who Jah bless I say NO MAN CURSE! Ting's gettin better when they thought it would be worse ... I'm so solid as a rock, they just can't stop me now! [sic]."

"Let them be mad!!!! We make music. Don't like it, don't listen! Turn up the music remix is coming soon too! Guess who's on it? [sic]," Brown added in a separate tweet.

In the song, the former couple do nothing to dispel rumours they've rekindled their romance, three years after Chris physically assaulted Rihanna in their car on their way home from a pre-Grammy award gala.

"Girl, I wanna f**k you right now, been a long time, I've been missing your body," Chris sings.

"Remember how you did it, remember how you did it, if you still wanna kiss it, come come and get it," Rihanna responds.
