Rihanna named 'Woman of the Year'

IN VOGUE: Rihanna is named 'woman of the year'

RIHANNA has been given the honour of ‘woman of the year’ by fashion magazine Italian Vogue for her charity work and musical success.

The Loud hit-maker was commended for her ability to overcome struggles in her personal life, which included suffering domestic violence from ex-boyfriend and singer Chris Brown.

They also noted the Bajan singer’s rekindled relationship with her drug addict father, Ronald Fenty, as another triumph for the 23-year-old musician.

Italian Vogue said: "She [Rihanna] has managed to cultivate her career despite the many tragedies affecting her private life from her father's addiction to crack... to the violence caused to her in 2009 by [her] then-boyfriend Chris."

They added: "She has joined and supported campaigns for the fight against breast cancer as well as the fight against world famine.

"She also offered her help to ill or less fortunate people such as the very young Jasmina Anema who saw the pop star on the frontline in the search for a bone marrow donor to save her from leukaemia."
