Rihanna slams Snapchat for domestic abuse 'joke'

CRITICISM: Rihanna told Snapchat to "throw the whole app-oligy away"

RIHANNA HAS called Snapchat out for running an advert that would “intentionally bring shame to DV victims”.

The advert, which appeared on the social media app, promoted a game called Would you rather and displayed a picture of Rihanna next to the words “slap Rihanna” and an image of Chris Brown with the words “punch Chris Brown”.

Snapchat has now removed the advert for the mobile game and described the advertisement as a violation of their advertising guidelines.

Publishing a short statement on her Instagram stories yesterday, the Bajan singer wrote: “Now Snapchat I know you already you know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess! I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb!

“You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV victims and made a joke of it!!! This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them...but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet...you let us down! Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.”

Since Rihanna’s comments about the advert, almost $1 billion (£720 million) has been wiped off Snap Inc, Snapchat’s parent company.

A Snap spokesperson said: “This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service. We are so sorry we made the terrible mistake of allowing it through our review process. We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”

Brown was found guilty of assaulting Rihanna, who he was dating at the time, in 2009 and was sentenced to community service.
