Samuel Eto'o ruled out of Croatia clash

INJURED: Cameroon leader Samuel Eto'o

A KNEE injury has ruled Samuel Eto'o out of Cameroon's second Group A game against Croatia on Wednesday evening.

The out-of-contract Chelsea announced the news on Twitter on Sunday evening. He wrote: “The doctors confirm! I would probably not be able to play the match vs Croatia on Wed June 18th due to an injury on my knee causing me pain.”

Cameroon's top scorer played in the 1-0 loss to Mexico on June 13, but he was visibly off the pace and his best chance came with a second-half shot against the post.

The 33-year-old is hopeful to return for the final game against hosts Brazil on June 23rd.

Manager, Volker Finke said: “He has a problem with the right knee that he already had at the end of the season with his club Chelsea. He did not train yesterday nor today.”

Both Cameroon and Croatia need the points from Wednesday's fixture having lost their opening fixtures at the 2014 World Cup.
