Serena Williams makes the Wimbledon semi-finals

SUCCESS: Serena Williams

SERENA WILLIAMS has come out on top to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals with a comeback victory over hard-hitting Italian Camila Giorgi.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion dropped her first set of the championships but came through 3-6 6-3 6-4.

"Every time I play Giorgi she always plays that level so I knew going in it would not be an easy match," Williams said shortly after walking off court.

"After the first set I said 'okay let's go three sets', I just kept fighting."

Speaking after the game, Williams said: "It felt good to get through it because it was a tough match."

The woman of the moment also discussed her upcoming opponent Julia Gorges who she will face in Thursday's (Jul 12) semi-finals.

"I played Julia in the French [Open]. That was four or five weeks ago. That doesn't matter. This is a whole new match, it's a new surface, it's everything. We're starting from zero."
