Sharon D. Clarke takes lead in Queen’s House celebration

CENTRE STAGE: Sharon D. Clarke

OLIVIER AWARD-winning actress Sharon D. Clarke will take centre stage at the National Maritime Museum in an outdoor event celebrating the 400th anniversary of the Queen’s House and its reopening later this year.

Clarke, fresh from her triumphant performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom at the National Theatre, will be joined by contemporary hip-hop group Avant Garde Dance for a production called The House.

CEREMONY: The Queen's House will reopen later this year

Together, they will bring the Queen’s House right into the 21st century, alongside video projections onto the centuries old facade from BAFTA Award winning filmmaker Tal Rosner.

The production will also feature incredible aerial performance and pyrotechnics from Pan.Optikum and the voice of one of Britain’s biggest stars of stage and screen, Sir Ian McKellen.

The House is the opening event of Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, London’s leading festival of free outdoor arts with theatre, circus, dance and participatory events taking place across Greenwich and east London between June 24 – July 2.

The House is presented in association with Royal Museums Greenwich as part of Royal Greenwich Festivals and the London Festival of Architecture 2016.
