Show goes on for Bill Cosby amid rape claims

RAPE CLAIMS: Cosby (PA)

BILL COSBY has decided to carry on with a one-man show in the Caribbean despite several allegations from different women that the veteran TV actor sexually abused them.

The 77-year-old TV star and comic has been in the Bahamas where he performed a sold-out show at the Atlantis Resort, sharing stories and jokes about his life and work.

Cosby, who was seen as a TV father figure from his time on the famous Cosby Show, has remained silent about accusations he drugged and raped women spanning a period over 30 years.

A number of women, who had fledging careers in the entertainment business when they first met Cosby, have claimed the actor sexually assaulted them when alone together.

Therese Serignese is the fourth and latest woman to speak out against the performer, and the 57-year-old claimed Cosby made her take pills before he sexually abused her backstage at a 1976 show in Las Vegas.

Her allegations mirror other claims from women, including ex-supermodel Janice Dickinson, who allege Cosby used drugs to rape them.

Cosby reportedly did not refer to the rape allegations during his Bahamas show, which raised money for a local women’s organisation.

Cosby has never been taken to court for the claims, but did settle with one woman after she accused him of a sexual attack.

A lawyer for Cosby recently issued a statement that Cosby would not “dignify” the allegations with a response, while calling the accusations “discredited”.

Earlier this month in an interview with Associated Press, Cosby was asked about the rape claims and said: “No, no. We don't answer that. There is no response.”

He requested to have the segment removed and not aired, adding: “If you want to consider yourself to be serious... it will not appear anywhere.

“We thought, because it was AP, that it would not be necessary to go over that question.

“And I would appreciate it if it was scuttled.”

Various TV networks and internet broadcasters, including NBC and Netflix, have quashed plans to revive his TV career, while repeats of his shows have been cancelled.

Cosby is scheduled to next appear for his tour at Melbourne, Florida, this evening.
