SPECULATION: Bolt
USAIN BOLT’S agent Ricky Simms has slammed suggestions that the three-time Olympic champion is struggling with a persistent leg niggle.
Rumours about the 100m world record holder’s fitness went into overdrive after he pulled out of a hometown meet, which was supposed to be his first scheduled race of the season, and was spotted in Germany instead.
Bolt had been due to race at the Camperdown Classic in Jamaica’s national stadium and reports yesterday (February 13) suggested that he had in fact left the country last Wednesday (February 8) to visit controversial doctor Hans Muller-Wohlfahrt.
The Munich based doctor is infamous for his calf’s blood injections. Simms, however, rejected the speculation about his client and stated:
“People can put two and two together and make five. Any speculation is ridiculous. He was in Europe doing work for a sponsor - a great opportunity that will become clear in due course - and called in for a regular check-up in Munich. He is not injured. He trained fully up to leaving Jamaica and is training fully again.”
Muller-Wohlfahrt, known as ‘Healing Hans’ has treated a host of top athletes struggling with injuries and he gave treatment to Bolt when he missed the end of the 2010 season with a back problem.
The sprinter’s coach, Glen Mills, also denied that he had any injury worries, declaring instead that the 25-year-old had ‘left the island for a business trip’ and training partner and Olympic rival Yohan Blake added:
“Bolt is quite OK. He is doing well in training. He is getting back to his old self. He is off the island to do a general checkup. He's OK."
