Sir Lenny Henry to release blues album later this month

NEW MUSIC: Sir Lenny Henry

SIR LENNY Henry is to release a blues CD later this month, it has been announced.

Millennium Blues will feature a mix of classic blues songs and original tracks written and composed by the revered entertainer’s Blackacre Road Band.

The CD follows the positive reaction to Sir Henry’s live charity performance on the final episode of a Sky Arts three-part documentary, Lenny Henry’s Got The Blues.

In this episode, broadcast in October, Sir Lenny and the band performed alongside Lulu, Mica Paris and Laura Mvula.

The upcoming CD features several of the tracks performed by the band during the charity performance and original tracks written by Sir Lenny and Jakko Jakzsyk.

The 57-year-old, who received a knighthood from the Queen for his services to drama and charity in December, said: “This project means a whole heap to me. I have been listening to Blues music my entire life – Muddy Waters, BB King and Howling Wolf to name but three of the artistes that I admire.

“Singing the blues is about singing from your soul (Van Morrison told me that so it must be true).”

The CD is released by Universal’s Made In Soho label and will be available to buy in shops and to download via iTunes.
