Soup kitchen and youth organisation feed Lambeth families

FOR THE COMMUNITY: Brixton Soup Kitchen

IN A bid to help struggling families and curb youth violence, charity Brixton Soup Kitchen have partnered with youth organisations GameChangers and Juvenis to launch their Big Brixton Community Breakfast. On Saturday 10th December, they will be offering free breakfast between 11am and 2pm to local families and those from low income households.

Visitors on the day will be offered hot food, homework support, mentoring, debt advice, and tips on cooking healthy meals on a budget.

Coldharbour Ward, which the soup kitchen is located in, is one of the most deprived areas within the UK. This event aims to give families some reprieve from the struggles of feeding a family with minimal income.

Gamechangers founder Carina White says, “Our ethos is about promoting the welfare of young people. A safe and warm environment, plus somewhere they can get support is crucial".

Brixton Soup Kitchen relies solely on donations. They have a food and clothes bank where homeless people and struggling families can come and collect food, clothes or personal hygiene items.

For the launch of their Big Community Breakfast, ITV News presenter Charlene White will be in the kitchen helping the team cook breakfast for their guests.

The Big Brixton Community Breakfast will be held monthly from 10th December from 11am until 2pm at 299 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton, SW9 8RP.
