Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It gets Netflix series reboot

REBOOT: Director Spike Lee

SPIKE LEE'S career-defining movie She’s Gotta Have It is going to be rebooted into a Netflix television series.

The streaming service giant has ordered a 10-episode series which would be a “contemporary update” to the 1986 film.

The award-winning filmmaker will direct each 30-minute show and serve as the executive produce with his wife and production partner, Tonya Lewis Lee.

The movie, made in just 12 days for $175,000, was considered trailblazing for breaking cliche Hollywood representations of black culture in America.

ICONIC: She’s Gotta Have It was released in 1986

She's Gotta Have It has a very special place in my heart,” Lee said in a press release.

“We shot this film in 12 days (2 six day weeks) way back In the back back of the hot summer of 1985 for a mere total of $175,000. Funds That We Begged, Borrowed and Whatnot To Get That Money.

The director added: "This is the [first] official Spike Lee feature film joint and everything that we have been blessed with in this tough business of film all have been due to SGHI. (sic)”

The film centres around Brooklyn artist Nola Darling and her three lovers, a culivated male model, an investment banker and sneaker seller Mars Blackmon, portrayed by Lee himself.

Lee said: "We are hyped that Netflix is onboard with this vision ... we are getting an opportunity to revisit these memorable characters who will still be relevant and avant garde three decades later."
