St Lucia hosts global sports conference in summer

HOST NATION: St Lucia is to hold the conference

ORGANISERS OF the Sport in Black & White Conference and Youth Forum have announced the event to go ahead this June in St Lucia.

The conference will see a diverse range of sports leaders, coaches and community actors coming together from different continents to focus on sporting challenges affecting young people.

It will run for two weeks, from June 9-23.

The event places a lot of weight on Caribbean sport and its structure, for it has been organised in part as a response to issues the region’s young people have when participating in sport.

One of the key features of the 14 days will be a college showcase that will have 20 islands taking part. Also included is a football trials and youth tournament, which is being backed by the St Lucia Football Association, the American soccer coaches union, and the UK’s Professional Footballers’ Association. Agents, club scouts and game officials will be present to share their expertise too.

The summer’s conference will be the third of its kind – organisers hope the event will become an established forum to exchange ideas on Caribbean and world sport, helping policy-makers, sports tourism stakeholders and other interested parties to strengthen youth sport.
