PROHIBITED: 'Saggy pants'

FLORIDA'S DEMOCRATIC Senator, Gary Siplin, has been handing out belts to students in Orlando to prevent the growing trend of sagging trousers.

In May, trousers worn below the hipline were prohibited in the US state amid claims that it was a form of anti-social behaviour.

It was initially reported that first-time offenders would be charged $50, those caught doing it again will be hit with a $100 fine, and third-time offenders would be forced to pay $200.

Now students caught attempting the fashion statement on college campuses could face up to three days of in-school suspension and up to 30 days suspension from extracurricular activities.

"We want our kids to believe they're going to college, and part of that is an attitude, and part of that is being dressed professionally," Siplin said.

The law, dubbed the 'Pull your pants up law' also targets low-cut and midriff-exposing shirts on girls.

The sagging fashion is widely believed to have been adopted from the American prison system where belts are prohibited as a security measure.

The style was later made popular by the hip hop music community.

I agree, they look so ridiculous. I'm glad it applies to girls too. Who wants to see their belly's & bum's, not many of us do. All for the sake of making a fashion statement? I don't think so.

I want to point out many of these kids leave their parents home with their pants up, but out of sight and around their friends, it's pant down until they are near home.

It's not just 'kids' who pull their pants down, I have seen grown men doing it as well and I always wonder if they know how ridiculous they look .

I want to point out many of these kids leave their parents home with their pants up, but out of sight and around their friends, it's pant down until they are near home.

These pics are some of the worst I've seen. I don't know what racial group started it, probably blacks, but whites and latinos have been wearing their pants at their hips, unlike in the pics. I have seen this pants saaging trend in Jamaica as well, as I assume their emulate from US rap videos. I suspect they may react to the law by wearing their shirts open exposing their bare chest and abdomen. Let's wait and see. But I assure you they will start a new trend, which we won't care for either.

What happens when they don't pay the fines, considering money is tight these days? Perhaps jail time which will lead to more prison overcrowding.

I heard that in prison in the states this kind of hanging pants means that the wearer is "available" for chi chi man ting. Its not normal I can tell you to expose the batty in such a way..
