Talking Textiles, in commemoration of Windrush 70

TALKING TEXTILES

THE COMMERATION of the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush at Tilbury Docks in June 1948 provides the opportunity to explore key pieces from the Goldsmiths Textile Collection with a Caribbean legacy, and to discuss their relevance within a broader canon of aesthetics in textiles with special attention to the discourse around black women, their arts and crafts practices and migration.

Rose Sinclair, who will be leading the discussion, is a lecturer in the Goldsmiths Design Department and PhD candidate. She will also introduce her current PhD research about black women, their crafting practices and textiles networks.ā€Ž

The display for this handling session will include works by renowned textile designer/artist Althea McNish and Goldsmiths alumna Dorothy Linton.

The conversation will be followed by tea/coffee at Deptford Town Hall.
