TEAM COOKIE: Taraji P. Henson is the first black actress to win for a leading role at the Critics' Choice TV Awards

THERE'S NO television character as fierce and loving as Cookie Lion - and everyone knows it.

Last night (May 31) Hollywood actress Taraji P. Henson won her inaugural Critics' Choice TV Award for best actress in a Drama Series for her fierce portrayal in the breakout hit Empire.

At the ceremony held inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the 44-year-old actress accepted her award in stunning a stunning black dress.

"Thank you Fox you're bold, you took a shot, you take a risk," the shocked Oscar-nominated star said during her acceptance speech.

"I just have to play the truth hopefully they love her for beating her son with a broom,' Taraji joked about her tough-but-loving character Cookie.

"We created such an incredible family on Empire, there's no Cookie without Luscious," she said referring to her TV husband Terrence Howard.
