DEADLY STATUE: The victim was impaled through the chest after reportedly tripping
AN AMERICAN teenager has died after being impaled by the horn of a bull statue on Texas University Campus.
14-year-old Miguel Martinez was fatally wounded in the chest after he tripped during a game of hide and seek with friends, it is believed.
The incident happened in a park near the National Ranching Heritage Center at Texas Tech University in the city of Lubbock.
According to CBS, the teenager had been staying at his friend’s house and around 3am the friend’s family and Miguel Martinez all went for a walk.
Judith Lesseberg, Miguel’s mother, told CBS: “It's hard for all of us. No mother expects this to happen to their child.”
“He just happened to trip over one of the lights. I guess he lost his balance and he went straight down on one of the horns.”
Texas Tech Police are investigating his death. The university said it would review its policies, practices and facilities to determine if any changes needed to be made to prevent a reoccurrence of such an incident.
