Three goals and three points for Team GB

RESULT: Daniel Sturridge is on his way back to full fitness

A CRACKING strike from Daniel Sturridge ensured Team GB took all three points in their group match against United Arab Emirates, on July 29.

A 3-1 win gave them the win they desperately needed after their dire draw against Senegal in their opening game.

GB took the lead against the run of play after a Craig Bellamy cross was met by Manchester United veteran, Ryan Giggs. Meaning the latter is now the oldest player to have scored in the Olympic Games.

UAE levelled on the hour through Rasheed Eisa after some sloppy defensive work from James Tomkins. They did seem to be coming back into the game but were denied by a couple of confident Jack Butland saves.

But twenty minutes from time, manager Stuart Pearce brought on Scott Sinclair for captain Giggs. The Swansea midfielder hadn’t even been on the pitch for a minute when he placed the ball in the back of the net, after more good work from Liverpool player, Bellamy.

And it was all over in the 76th minute. Daniel Sturridge replaced Marvin Sordell at half-time but had been fairly quiet until his goal, where he cheekily chipped the goal keeper to ensure GB had their win.
