AFTER MONTHS of speculation, it's been confirmed that Top Boy will be returning for a brand new series on Netflix.

The crime drama staring Ashley Walters and Kano was originally broadcast on Channel 4 in 2011, and followed the lives of those living on a fictional housing estate in Hackney, east London. The plot centred around a group of residents from the estate, who were involved in drug dealing and gangs. It was billed as an 'honest look' at inner-city gang culture.

The show was a massive success with audiences and critics, with a second series following two years later - both of which are now available on Netflix.

When Channel 4 confirmed that it had dropped the show, fans thought it had come to an end - but the cult show gained a big endorsement from rapper Drake, who bought the rights to the show.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the third series will pick up with Dushane returning to his former London home to try and reclaim his place as 'top boy'. However, ruthless gang-leader Jamie has different ideas.

The third series is due to air in 2019.
