Trayvon Martin death: Zimmerman to plead not guilty

GEORGE ZIMMERMAN'S attorney has said that the 28-year-old will plead not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, reports MSNBC.

The neighbourhood watchman turned himself in to Florida Police yetserday over the death of 17-year-old, Trayvon Martin, who was gunned down in Florida on Feb 26.

Police say Zimmerman claimed the teen was acting 'suspicious' and he shot him in self-defence after an confrontation in the gated community.

An online petition urging local authorities to prosecute Zimmerman has meanwhile drawn in millions signatures at website Change.org. While a number of celebrities have also joined in the campaign for justice supporting the arrest of the student.

Since Trayvon's death scores of protests in his honour have been held across the US.

Acccording to the BBC Trayvon's parents said the charge was a first step towards justice but that there was still 'a long way to go'.
