'Trayvon was scared'

DEATH: Trayvon Martin

THE GIRL who was on the phone with Trayvon Martin moments before he was killed, reportedly claims that the teenager described neighbourhood watchman, George Zimmerman, as 'crazy and creepy' before he was gunned down.

The unidentified witness said that the 17-year-old asked Zimmerman to 'get off' right before the teem was shot to death, in a gated neighbourhood in Sanford, Florida on February 26, reports The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

When describing the phone conversation an interview with a state prosecutor last month, she allegedly said that Martin, who she has known since kindergarten, 'was breathing hard', before confirming that he sounded 'scared'.

She said: "His voice kind of changed. I know he was scared. His voice was getting kind of low."

CHARGED: George Zimmerman

The girl also stated that Martin had asked Zimmerman why he was following him and heard the 28-year-old respond: "What are you doing around here?"

Police say Zimmerman, who is charged with second-degree murder, claimed the teen was acting 'suspicious' before he shot him in self-defence after an alleged confrontation.

The case continues.
