Unlucky 13 for Woods’ caddie

PARTING OF THE WAYS: Williams (left) with Woods

TIGER WOODS has parted company with Steve Williams, his caddie of 13 years.
Woods, who missed last week's Open because of a leg injury, made the announcement on his official website.

Williams had been Woods’ caddie since 1999, helping the American during 13 out of the 14 major titles that the former world no.1 had achieved.

Woods, who has been the subject of controversy since revelations about his private life said: "I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie, but I think it's time for a change.

"Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future."

Speaking on his official website, New Zealand-born Williams responded: "After years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock.

"Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger's scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries, I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time.

Insiders say that Woods has wanted to turn over a new leaf after the break-up of his marriage.

Woods has also attempted to perfect a new swing and once he returns from injury he has vowed to regain his golf status.
