Upset over black dolls in nurseries

ANGER: Nurseries told to stock a diverse selection of dolls

A DECISION to place black dolls in Colorado nurseries has caused anger in the American community.

The state of Colorado recently proposed new regulations for day care centres to house at least three different races of dolls.

According to reports, a number of angry parents have opposed the ruling and some nursery owners have even blasted the idea.

Day care owner Roberta Nicolosi told radio station KKCO: "They are infringing on a lot of our rights. [We're not giving parents a choice. We're not giving children a choice. We're not giving caregivers a choice."

Meredith Carroll, writer for popular baby care website, Strollerderby, said that she believed enforcing nurseries to carry “dolls of at least three different races seems a bit silly, why not transgender or handicapped dolls, too, while they're at it?"

Why shouldn't nurseries have

Just Aggie's picture

Why shouldn't nurseries have black dolls? We are supposed to be teaching children about the world - there are many races in the world so it is right for the dolls to be diverse.

I have to disagree that men cutting their hair and women straightening their hair means they do want to look african.... being african or carribean and black is not about just one thing.. and it is certainly NOT about choice of hair style... i think this labelling is probably not helpful... when is someone black enough>> who defines what black pride is?

anyway back to the dolls... check out www.blackbeautydolls.com for black dolls and kids books in the UK - they have a massive range..

I'm a south African .we have racism in s.a but we don't live and eat race. I'de like to think children just want to play. As parents'society or the nation how about teaching embracing individualism rather then pigment and the sterotype behind it. Here we are debating about the colour of dolls.like a child without parents, or a child that has only seen never held nor owned a doll cares about the colour of the material thing! Its a sick beautiful world.

What about all those cruel Black African Presidents who treat their poor worser than animals. You ever heard about Rawanda, were almost a million black people were killed. You notice no outcry by the black population in the west.
We should therefore stop making out that life for black people in the west is unbearable. Try living in an African country. You will know who your real enemies are.

We are White identified. once that stops, white society falls. that is why this is going to be faught by white people. there way of life(being God to Non-white people) is being threatened. so keep up the fight to be Non-white as you can be and maybe we can replace white supremacy with justice.

We have black and white people in society so why not reflect this with dolls??? People need stop their nonsense! Children need to play with dolls that reflect their culture and learn to be proud of their culture.
Those that oppose black dolls should hang their heads in SHAME!!! What total utter nonsense!

Why would they want to play with black dolls and be proud of their culture when their mothers are the first to straighten their hair and tell them that's it's something to be ashamed of and, idiot black men, shave theirs off! CHILDREN are heavily influenced by what they see adults do!

The poor US is still suffering from basic racism, 50 years after ML King and with a black president. Seems the campaign by ML King and others was all a waste of time and points to the unlessness of Obama and Michelle as a husband and wife presidential team.

We have to remember that

We have to remember that Obama is not going to make any real change as he is only a puppet for the slavemaster, their are powerfull people above him who give him orders and he has to follow them. If Obama makes any attempt to reach out to the disenfranchised people in communities the government he works for will try to assasinate him or better yet they will kill him and make it look like a accident, that is how the game of politricKKKs is played.

As long as America is controlled by a white supremacist power structure racism will always exist.

Racism is not just in America

Anonymous's picture

Racism is not just in America it's worldwide. There is racism Europe including the UK. Racism in America is very direct and in your face, where as here in the UK racism is hidden, indirect and not so in your face but it does exist here as well. Let me give you a quick example of how racism exists here in the UK, the black youth get stopped by police more than there white counterparts in London, that is just one example. There is also racism in France too, you might not here about it that much but it's happening.

Far right groups

I most vehemently support the need for action to be taken against far-right groups and individuals in the UK and worldwide for these very pathetic individuals or groups are the sole cause of hate crimes which causes in most severe cases the loss
of so many innocent lives.

Why wouldn't they be cheaper when even black women don't want to look african! Black women need to learn to be proud of who they are first, before they can expect anybody else to be proud of them!
