MURDER-SUICIDE: National Football League player Jovan Belcher
THE RELATIVE of a woman who was killed by her American footballer boyfriend before he fatally shot himself at the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, has stated that their relationship was strained.
Kansas City Chiefs player Jovan Belcher, 25, murdered 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins, shooting her several times, and then committed suicide in front of two coaches and a general manager on December 1.
The couple had a three-month-old child together.
After shooting Perkins, police stated that linebacker Belcher drove to the Chiefs’ training facility where he thanked general manager Scott Pioloi, coach Romeo Crennel and defensive co-ordinator Gary Gibbs for allowing him to play before shooting himself.
Police said that they had been arguing after Perkins attended a Trey Songz concert with friends.
Kasandra’s cousin Angela told Newsday: “It wasn't a healthy thing that was going on.
"There was just a lot going on. She was stressed. He was stressed.”
Angela added: "It just started to go bad, but they had the child, and they were trying to make it work."
