Veteran Jamaica keeper Ricketts rejoins stars at LA Galaxy

SHOT-STOPPER: Donovan Ricketts

DONOVAN RICKETTS, the former Jamaica No1, has signed up for the star-studded LA Galaxy to tackle the MLS alongside the recently recruited England midfield maestro Steven Gerrard.

The veteran shotstopper, who retired from the international arena upon reaching a century of caps in 2013, returns to the West Coast side having played for LA Galaxy between 2009-2011.

Bruce Arena, the LA Galaxy head coach and general manager, enthused about the 38-year-old: “Donovan's familiar with our team and has proven to be a player capable of winning Championships.

“He's one of the most experienced and successful goalkeepers in MLS, so we're happy that he's once again a member of our club.”

Although Ricketts played a major part for the Reggae Boyz under former technical director Rene Simoes of Brazil, he didn't get to play in the 1998 World Cup finals despite being a squad member at the tournament in France.

He was a Caribbean Cup winner with the Boyz in 2005 and 2008 then at LA Galaxy picked up an array of medals - the MLS Western Conference Championship in 2009 and 2011, the 2010 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, the MLS Supporters' Shield in 2010 and 2011 plus the 2011 MLS Cup.

He represented Montreal Impact in 2012, played for Portland Timbers between 2012-2014 – where he won the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013 – and was at Orlando City for a year before returning to LA Galaxy.
