Violent gang crime down

POLICE: Armed officers on duty in London

POLICE FIGURES show a 28 per cent reduction in serious youth violence and 28 per cent drop in knife injuries involving people under 25 over the last year.

Furthermore, the number of gun shootings has decreased by 18 per cent in the same period.

The statistics translate to 1,557 fewer victims of violent youth crime, and 436 fewer affected by knife injuries.

Last year, on February 8 the Met launched its Trident Gang Crime Command, and during its one-year anniversary the police say Trident officers have made over 4,000 arrests since April, 2012.

The latest figures come as concerns have been raised about Trident’s Independent Advisory Group receiving an overhaul, which critics say could jeopardise its independence.

Trident was created to tackle gun crime, gangs and homicides in the black community.
