VOICE POLL: 67 percent ‘happy’ at top cop resignation

RESIGNATION: Sir Paul Stephenson

MORE THAN half of Voice Online readers said they were happy that Met Police Commissioner, Sir Paul Stephenson had decided to resign amid the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

An overwhelming 67 percent said that Sir Paul’s shock announcement, which followed allegations of inappropriate links with a News of the World executive, was justified.

The Commissioner had faced criticism over the hiring of former News of the World deputy editor Neil Wallis as a PR adviser to the Met and accepting a £12,000 stay at a luxury spa.

At the time, Sir Paul said: "I carry ultimate responsibility. I wish we had judged some matters in this affair differently."
