Vybz Kartel acquitted

ACQUITTED: Vybz Kartel

VYBZ KARTEL has been found not guilty of the murder of Jamaican businessman Barrington ‘Bossy’ Burton.

The dancehall star's acquittal came after the prosecution failed to offer any further evidence against the Clarks hitmaker.

Supreme Court judge Bryan Sykes also turned down an application by the Crown to admit two witness statements in the trial. He said he was not convinced that the prosecution took enough steps to locate the witnesses.

The 12-member jury has also freed Kartel's two co-accused, Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson.

It was alleged that in 2011, Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, along with the other men conspired to murder Barrington 'Bossy' Burton, a 27 year-old businessman/promoter of a Gregory Park address in the Jamaican parish of St Catherine. Burton was murdered while he was standing with friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park.

The Jamaican deejay was arrested in September 2011 and charged with the murders of Mr Burton and another man, Clive “Lizard” Williams.

Despite his acquittal, Kart;el will remain in custody over the Clive “Lizard” Williams murder. He will return to court in November.
