'We don't believe the Met'

METROPOLITAN POLICE appeals to the black community for support for its new approach to stop and search has been overwhelmingly rejected by Voice readers.

Officers announced a dramatic u turn on the controversial policy because it has angered the capital’s black and minority ethnic communities.

But a staggering 88 per cent of people who took part in a Voice online poll said they did not believe the force’s claims that use of stop and search would now be fairer.

The results leave the new Met Commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe’s efforts to win trust over the controversial tactic in doubt.

Campaigners have urged him to act swiftly to win back the support of the black community.
