West Indies women just champion

HAPPY DAYS: West Indies women put together a superb run chase to win the World T20 crown

WEST INDIES women won the World T20 tournament in India with a comprehensive eight wicket win over Australia at Eden Gardens, Kolkata(April 3).

Captain Stefanie Taylor led from the front as the Caribbean side chased down 149 with a wonderful 59 off just 57 balls.

This was an unexpected victory for the women in the famous maroon. The Australians began the match as the three-time winners of this trophy but they were denied by a gutsy and skilfulall-round display by Taylor’s team.

Elyse Villani and Meg Lanning both hit 52 as the team from Down Under took control of the match. Deandra Dottin took 2 for 33 and only conceded a single in Australia's final over as the West Indies put a late halt to their opponent's charge.

During the run chase Taylor was ably assisted by Hayley Matthews (66) as the dynamic duo put on 120 for the first wicket; from that foundation West Indies gained confidence.

They needed three runs off the final over which was bowled by Elyse Perry. They won the match with three bowls to spare.
