Whats The Play? With Anthony 'Play' Douglas

TWO THE HARD WAY: From left - Gee Wunder and Mr. Play

IT'S THE summer holidays, that time of the year where parents need to keep their children entertained for six weeks - what will you and your children be doing?

Last week I started my 'holiday entertaining' LOL. There was an event called Music Matters at Selfridge's that went straight into my diary as I was told that Not3s would be performing there. For those that don't know, Not3s is a young artist from London who sings a song called Addison Lee (Peng t'ing called Madison/I tell her come jump in my Addison Lee). My 10 year-old daughter really loves the song and sings it constantly, so much so that I know it word for word. I decided that in order for me to be nominated for Father of the Year, I needed to get her in to watch him perform. Because of the type of event it was, I didn't think it would happen, so I managed to get him on FaceTime so she could speak to her and was feeling really good about myself, until I got a message from her saying: 'Does that mean I can't meet him?'. In my head I could hear the song Under Pressure playing - LOL. It wasn't even funny - I had to get my daughter into this event! forwarding, I didn't only get my daughter into the event - this happened:

It was good seeing 6 Figure Music and Pakman on set of H Moneda's Whip video shoot, the song is a monster! If you don't already know, just remember Mr. Play from the UK told ya!

H Moneda most definitely has some crazy visuals on the way this summer. I don't wanna say too much, but keep it locked to @h_moneda and

A few months back I was in Holland for a music conference called New Skool Rules. I met a lot of interesting people and among them was Gee Wunder from Canada. I heard him speak on a few panels and his knowledge of the world hip-hop culture was second to none. I had to grab him for a few minutes so he could get a quick Q&A with Mr. Play!

Q: Who is Gee Wunder?

A: Gee Wunder is an OG in the Canadian and Toronto urban music industry. I'm an artist, television executive, record label owner, producer and consultant. I'm also the most prolific rapper in Toronto's underground scene.

Q: What made you get into the music business?

A: Because I was already living and breathing hip-hop, it was a natural transition into making music my full-time gig.

Q: What do you like most about what you do?

A: I like that all of my income comes from music in some shape or form. I also like to empower and teach younger artists about the music industry.

Q: What would you tell you younger self?

A: I would tell my younger self to travel outside of my own country more to promote my music and perform.

Q: Where do you see yourself in the next three to five years?

A: In the next five years I see myself as a powerful music industry executive with various new businesses. I also see my label Motive Music Canada as the most important underground music label in the 6ix AKA Toronto.
