White man arrested for walking with black granddaughter

ARREST: Scott Henson was detained by police while walking with his black granddaughter, Ty

A WHITE man was allegedly arrested by police in Texas after he was spotted walking with his black granddaughter, it has been claimed.

Scott Henson, a political consultant, had been to a roller skating rink with five-year-old, Ty, earlier in the day, but when the pair were making their way home they were reportedly stopped by a female police officer, who explained that there had been reports of a white man kidnapping a black girl.

"He's my Grandpa," the youngster is believed to have told the police deputy.

Henson and Ty, who is the child of his adopted daughter, were allowed to go on. However, Henson alleges that a couple of blocks away from their home, they were met with five flashing police cars and a group of officers.

"The officers got out with tasers drawn demanding I raise my hands and step away from the child," Henson, who was then cuffed, said.

He added: "One of them called out in a comforting tone that they weren't there to hurt her, but another officer blew up any good will that might have garnered by brusquely snatching her up and scuttling her off to the back seat of one of the police cars."

Mr Henson was eventually released, however he has said the police have yet to apologise.

There has been no comment from the police department.
