Who murdered Wayne Powell?

‘TRUE GENT’: Wayne Powell, 39, before his mysterious shooting in 2010

POLICE ARE no closer to finding the gunman who shot dead a popular family man in north east London two years ago.

The lack of intelligence has prompted his loved ones to turn to the community for help in catching his killer so they can finally find closure.

London Underground worker Wayne Powell, from Hackney, was found unconscious near his parked BMW, in Higham Station Avenue, Chingford, on July 5, 2010, and died the next day in hospital.

Wayne, also known as DJ Connoisseur, was shot several times in the back and left for dead near the gym he used. The gunman is believed to have fled the scene using a nearby footpath.

The fact that Wayne got out of his car has led the family to believe he knew his attacker.

His sister, Tracy-Antoinette, speaking on behalf of the Powell family, said: “It has taken us so long to accept that Wayne is not coming back, but we do now. Until we get answers, however, we will never have closure.

“Wayne was a true gentleman and wasn’t involved in this kind of lifestyle. He was an innocent man.”

Police investigating the 39-year-old’s death say he had no links to gangs, and his death remains a mystery despite several appeals for information.

A £20,000 reward is available to anyone who can come forward with information that could lead to an arrest and a conviction.

Tracy-Antoinette said: “We are asking that any information - no matter how small or trivial – be passed to the officers who are dealing with this case.

“The person or persons responsible for this crime and those who have information, we are asking you from our hearts to please help us find his murderer.

“We are appealing for your help in bringing to justice those responsible for this crime and his senseless death which has saddened his family, his friends, and the community.

“It has also robbed his children of having their father’s guidance in their young lives.”

She added: “Someone out there knows something. Friendships break down. People move. Circumstances change. This is what we’re banking on and why we’re speaking out now in the hope our family can have some influence.
“It may be that you were trying to protect someone. We are pleading with you to help us finally find closure.”

The Powell family and friends have organised a 2nd Year memorial service for Wayne to be held at St John of Hackney Church, Lower Clapton Road, Hackney, on Friday, July 6, at 12pm. All are welcome to attend.
