Win 'Urban Hymn' on DVD

SCREEN QUEENS: (left to right) Isabella Laughland, Shirley Henderson and Letitia Wright attending the Urban Hymn Charity Gala Screening last year

The Voice and Bulldog Film Distribution have teamed up to give away five copies of Urban Hymn, winner of the Best Film in the Generator (+18 category) at the Giffoni Film Festival, on DVD.

The coming-of-age story stars Letitia Wright (Top Boy, Humans) and Isabella Laughland of Harry Potter and The Inbetweeners fame, who start their friendship at a children's home. Set against the backdrop of the 2011 British summer riots, Director Michael Caton–Jones paints a realistic picture of south west London. We witness the journey of wayward teen, Jamie (Letitia Wright), who faces influences from her past that threaten to ruin her bright-looking future. Encouraged by inspiring and unconventional care worker Kate, played by Shirley Henderson, to use singing as a release from her troubled life, Jamie’s loyalties soon become torn between Kate and her possessive and volatile best friend, Leanne, played by Isabella Laughland.

Watch the trailer below:

Influences on the two young care leavers range from Etta James to (sadly) heroin addiction, sex on a public walkway and even a suprise appearance from British musician and activist Billy Bragg. These glimpses into the teenagers' lives include joyful times punctuated with prison sentences and a palpable pain which can be heard in Jamie's angelic voice as she sings with Kate's community choir; an act which seems brave after her initial cries of, "I can't do this, this ain't for me".

With an ending that will have you shouting at the screen in disbelief, Urban Hymn is both a cautionary tale and a heart-warming affirmation of unconditional love and its power.

The film is available on DVD and Digital HD from today, however you could grab a copy of the DVD for free by answering this simple question:
