ON TOP OF THE WORLD: England’s young Lions are in party mood after their global success

ENGLAND UNDER 20’s coach Paul Simpson hailed the work of his predecessor Aidy Boothroyd who he credited for doing a marvellous job in preparing the squad for greatness.

Simpson was visibly overwhelmed by the World Cup win by his charges against Venezuela but took time out from saluting his team to highlight the efforts a fantastic promotion to the U21s and I was asked to step in and look after the U20s until the end of this tournament.”

“I jumped into it late on - Boothroyd started the hard work and led the team to the semi- finals of the Euros,” Simpson said.

He added: “He got a fantastic promotion to the U21s and I was asked to step in and look after the U20s until the end of this tournament.”

HONOUR

Reflecting on the success Simpson said: “It’s just a huge honour and I’m so proud of all the players, staff and everybody at the FA who have worked tirelessly to get to this point.

“It’s been years of work, preparation and planning and I can’t believe that I’ve been given this opportunity to take this group to a World Cup. And to finish with a lovely gold medal around my neck is a wonderful feeling.”
