Yaya Toure 'on the brink of greatness'

TALENT: Yaya Toure

YAYA TOURE will finally get the recognition he deserves - if he lights up this summer’s World Cup. That is the view of former Tunisia captain Rahdi Jaidi, who played in the 2002 and the 2006 competitions.

Toure created a stir earlier this year when he claimed the media was falling to acknowledge his brilliance because he is African.

However, the Ivory Coast juggernaut again underlined his worth to Manchester City’s as he notched 24 goals and claimed nine assists to help them to a League and Cup double.

And with the World Cup just days away, Jaidi insists the three-time African Player of the Year is now primed to grab the global adulation he reckons his talents deserve.

“Yaya Toure has a big chance to show what’s he done at club level this season in England to the whole world, and help his team get far in this competition,” said Jaidi.

“This is a great opportunity for him to show he’s the best midfielder in the world.
“Luis Suarez was excellent for Liverpool last season and took them really close to winning the Premier League with his goals.

“He won both Player of the Year awards, but I think Yaya should have won one. When you look at it, there are no other midfielders in the world like Yaya – none.

“The World Cup is the perfect opportunity for him to show his power, technique and dominate games on the grandest stage.

“I’m waiting for him to have a big tournament. It’s his time and he should leave no one in doubt of who is the best.”
