Young DJ Turned Events Entrepreneur Celebrates Seven Years

VNV LIVE'S DIRECTOR: Carby pictured with TV personality Carol Vorderman

DEAN CARBY, (who has recently celebrated his 30th birthday) presents a focused, 'always on' attitude as Director of VNV Live; a London-based events management company with an international reach and expertise in DJ-ing, sound engineering, lighting and planning.

The young business head began VNV Live seven years ago with a loyal group of fellow DJs and engineers who began with great collective success in party and club night promotion for their City of London monthlies. An increasingly popular choice of DJ for weddings, private parties and even schools who wanted to give pupils an opportunity to learn how to mix; the group soon put their years of audio visual knowledge to fruitful use. Seven years on, VNV Live manage all aspects of the sound and lighting at events for clients including Microsoft, the House of Commons, Nando's and Fortnum and Mason.

Sharing the challenges of running the company, Carby is always on-call whizzing around to troubleshoot at anything from a wedding in the Home Counties to a club night at 3am;

"Pros of being the boss: can leave home at midday to get to the office...Cons of being the boss: might still be in the office at midnight LOL (sic)."

Carby is keen to develop his own status as an authority on all things audio visual and has already began the process of making the VNV Live team less reliant on him as a 'Key Person'. Moving from the operational to the strategic has been a constant work in progress for the live music-lover, who is enjoying new opportunities to advise corporate clients on how to achieve maximum impact at events with control and manipulation of lighting and the inner workings of the sound desk; which Carby feels are often neglected to the detriment of an event's atmosphere.

To celebrate the seven-year anniversary, Dean and his team are also releasing their very own wedding DJ song and in true VNV Live style, holding a celebratory party.

An additional project which is proving just as enjoyable for Carby is #WeddingWednesdays, a weekly video snippet which goes behind the scenes with Carby as he plans wedding entertainment and consults with would-be brides.

Quoting best-selling business author Kevin Kruse, Carby concludes that after a few years of hungrily chasing a high volume of business, his ethos for VNV Live and his future projects has shifted;

"Life is about making an impact, not making an income."
