Young Nigerian girl launches innovative location app

TECH SAVVY: Tomisin Ogunnubi

CHILDREN ARE becoming even more tech-savvy these days, and one young Nigerian girl has created a fully-functioning app that is sure to benefit her community.

Tomisin Ogunnubi, a 12-year-old from Lagos, has developed an Android mobile tracking app called My Location, which aims to help lost children find their way back home.

The community-based app was inspired by an increasing surge of lost children in her community, and she developed the app under the guidance of an Information and Communications Technology partnership, between her school, Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, and New Horizons Computer Learning Center.

Here, Tomision was able to learn the necessary skills and knowledge needed to develop her app, which helps users to know their location, find a location and view it on the map.

It also has an alert button that is connected to Lagos State Emergency Service Number (767), which when pressed, the emergency number is automatically dialled and the user’s current location is sent to them.
