Youth footballer re-bailed after car crash deaths incident

UNDER INVESTIGATION: Courtney Meppen-Walter

POLICE HAVE referred a case to the Crown Prosecution Service following the death of two people in a car crash that involved Manchester City youth footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter.

Kulwant Singh, 32, and his sister Ravel Kaur-Singh, 37, died after their Nissan Micra collided with Meppen-Walter’s Mercedes in September.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "The driver of the Mercedes, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been re-bailed until January 24.

"A file has been prepared and sent to the Crown Prosecution Service to make a final decision."

Sergeant Danny Byrne, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, added: "This is an incredibly complex and sensitive investigation and it is important we balance the needs of the families, who have suffered unimaginable grief, with the facts as we have them."

Teenager Meppen-Walter is yet to play for City’s first team but has featured for England under-17s.
