Law and Legal Services

Commercial firms offer the largest number of training contracts, both in London and regionally, and many operate in the global market. High-street and general-practice firms recruit graduates in smaller numbers in response to business needs.

The Government Legal Service (GLS) and large local authorities offer small numbers of training contracts, and the GLS also offers pupillages. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) offers both training contracts and pupillages, the number of which depends on business needs.

Large, private companies are increasingly recruiting trainee solicitors, although they still generally take on fully qualified lawyers.

For barristers, chambers generally recruit one to four pupils a year, with those in London having the most openings. There are a small number of pupillages in the employed Bar, within government (GLS and CPS) and private companies.
