Jasmine and Mims are so hot!
Darhhhlings! I've just spent the day at Ascot for ladies day at the races.
It was tres la di da and I had fun but I have to say I still prefer a good old day roller-skating in Hyde Park when it's hot (and I don't have to talk all posh like and pretend i'm from ''good stock!'')
Enlightenment, however late it comes, is a great thing! I was persuaded to get my chest measured professionally this week as John Lewis were doing free measuring sessions at lunch time.
Well lo and behold was I enlightened! My breasts were a whole two cups bigger than the size bra I've been wearing for a decade. 'Don't worry" reassured the lingerie assistant, '60% of women wear the wrong size bra.' 'Yeah', I responded, "but I'm the one whose been walking around with four breasts for a decade!"
The hottest tune this year so far has to have been Mims' This Is Why I'm Hot. Used as a musical bed for any product on the planet that exists, will Mims be another one hit wonder a la Sunshine Anderson or does he have that much eluded longevity that Jibbs, Chamillionaire, Chingy and Blu Cantrell crave? When he invited me to hang out I accepted. Within our first minute Mims confided in me that he thought his London hotel was haunted (I suggested Mary Jane has hallucination qualities) and he mentioned he was a huge Slick Rick fan (I appreciated his love for the Brits). Mims confessed that for his hit song he just thought of a catchy hook that people would want to roll with and ta-da, just like the slickest magician he earned himself a lottery on one song! I have to say readers, this is a great idea. Do you know how much the estate of the family that wrote Happy Birthday makes annually? It's ludicrous! I might make up a worldwide anthem tune called No Pre-Nup-No Wedding or I Dumped His Ass- He Was Rotten. Mims admitted when the track exploded he was speechless. 'Words can't describe how that feels. You have always got to reach above and beyond yourself and say 'this is my music, this is the hottest song in the world, this is the number 1 record, it's going to be the number 1 record in the whole world." And for me to reach that goal and have my country tell me that it's not only the number 1 record but it's one of the biggest jumps in Billboard history. I'm like 'man, hands down this is a blessing, that's how that feeling feels for me.'
I told Mims I preferred the remix featuring Junior Reid and Babycham and I thought hip-hop and reggae should always collaborate on tracks to get bigger smashes. I also prefer the M.O.P version of the Machal Montano track One More Time. Mims agreed and revealed that it was important for him to acknowledge his Jamaican roots with the remix as well as enhancing the record and delivering something different.
I mentioned to Mims I had just returned from the German rock am ring festival and how it blew my mind seeing 100,000 hyper people jumping, partying and crowd surfing with no trouble or police attendance and I wished hip-hop could be as big. Mims saw eye to eye excitedly stating "I know! Even with my album, I was able to incorporate the rock side and I have a sample on my album from Ray Charles, which is probably only the second record in Hip-Hop history to get clearance from Ray Charles' estate. In my opinion its one of those albums that I think a 5-year old could listen to, a 55-year-old could listen to, a church goer could listen to, or a drug dealer could listen to."
Readers, every week I get hundreds of e mails from you all asking advice about a variety of things, inviting me to your events and generally giving me much appreciated feedback. I always reply to you all but can't always commit to face to face time. Until now.
Opportunity
If you would like to touch base with me, hang out with a glass of wine or pick my brain here's an opportunity. Alas, it's only open to the ladies but gents keep in touch and I'm sure we can arrange something. Smile.
Ladies, I'm looking for you to come and join my crew for the hydroactive fun run on September 16th at Hyde Park. I'm raising money for the African Caribbean leukaemia trust and you can join me on the day where I will most probably be walking the whole way as the only thing I can run is my mouth. No seriously-the girls and I have a pact to only break into a jog when we see a photographer! If you can't join me 'cos you're a man, or a lady who can't make the run but would still like to help please visit my online page to sponsor me at http://www.justgiving.com/jasminedotiwala. I am truly grateful for all donations. Once you're on there you can check which superstar celebs have sponsored me already!'
Speaking of superstar celebs, this week I was lucky enough to listen to some of Mariah's new joints for her next album and all I can say is if you thought her last album was the second coming, well, you ain't seen nuthin' yet! MC filled me in on all the fun she's been having in the Islands working on her new tracks with her mate Da Brat. Now she's in Europe all week starting off at Paris' Disneyland for a huge function, then it's to our favourite spot Capri to swim in the blue lagoon before finishing up in Rome. So I must run and pack a case or two to join her but I can't say where 'cos you know those paps! Like Tupac- they get around!
